In Psalms ninety-seven the Psalmist said of Jehovah God, “the heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory”, and in chapter ninety-seven and verse seven of Psalms the Psalmist said, “confounded be all they that serve graven images” where we read,
Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols:
worship him, all you gods.
The verse begins, “Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols:” The Psalmist began with the word, “confounded” or “disconcerted, put to shame and disappointed” “be all they that serve” which means “exist each, every, the whole and everyone of the people whether male or female who work, labor and are servants to” “graven images” or “carved idols made in likeness to man or animals”. The Psalmist said every person who works, labors and gives service to carved idols exist as disconcerted, put to shame and disappointed.
The verse goes on to say, “worship him, all you gods.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “worship him” or “bow down to and prostrate yourselves before him, Jehovah God”, “all you gods” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the divinities, judges, rulers and magistrates”. The Psalmist called upon every other divinity, judge, ruler and magistrate to bow themselves down to Jehovah God.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist exalted Jehovah God above every other “idol” that people “worship and serve”. He already declared all other “gods” to be empty and vain, and rather than worship and serve them, people should worship Jehovah God. He alone sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and those sins separated us from a personal relationship with God. When we believe and trust in Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us that He is the only valid and true God who is worthy of worship and is able to keep us from being disconcerted and put to shame.
Next time the Psalmist says, “Zion heard, and was glad”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
