The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus, “came down with” His twelve disciples, “and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases, and they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed”, and in chapter six and verse nineteen of his book Luke shares how, “the whole multitude sought to touch him … and he healed them all” where we read:
And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
The verse reads, “And the whole multitude sought to touch him:” Luke began with the words, “and the whole multitude” or “and everyone in the large crowd and massive group of people” “sought to touch him” which means “craved, desired and strove to fasten, adhere and cling themselves to Jesus”. Luke shared how everyone in the large crowd desired to “touch” Jesus.
The verse continues, “for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.” Luke added the words, “for there went virtue” which means “because, since and on account that there departed and emitted strength, power and ability for performing miracles” “out of him” or “from Jesus”, “and healed them all” which means “and made whole, cured and restored to health each, every, the whole and everyone of the people who touched Jesus”. Luke shared how “strength, power and ability” emanated from Jesus, and He “cured and restored” every person who “touched” Him.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how powerful Jesus was over all “diseases, illnesses and vexations” of man. Regardless of the needs within a person, Jesus could “cure” them all. Jesus is the answer for every problem known to man, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, not only will He give them aid for their physical problems, but He will also “cure” their spiritual problems as well. Let all who read these words follow the lead of the “multitude” who “sought to touch Him” and reach out to Him with all your needs.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “blessed are you poor” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
