The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus, “came down with” His twelve disciples “and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases”, and in chapter six and verse eighteen of his book Luke shares how how, “they that were vexed with unclean spirits … were healed” where we read:
And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.
The verse reads, “And they that were vexed with unclean spirits:” Luke began with the words, “and they that were vexed” or “and people both male and female who were disturbed, troubled, in confusion and harassed” “with unclean spirits” which means “with impure, morally lewd and foul demonic beings”. Luke shared how people who were “harassed and troubled” by “demonic evil spirits” were within the crowd of people gathered around Jesus.
The verse goes on to say, “and they were healed.” Luke continued with the words, “and they” which means “and the people who were vexed with the unclean spirits” “were healed” or “were cured, restored to health and relieved”. Luke shared how all the people who were “vexed with unclean spirits” were “restored to health and relieved” of their burdens.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover how there were people within the multitude who met Jesus in the plain that were “taunted” by “evil demonic spirits”. These people believed they could come to Jesus who would help them, and He did. Jesus has power over all “spirits” in the world, and none of them are stronger than He. Jesus came to deliver people from the power of “sin” which separates them from God, and when they believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He not only forgives their “sins” but also promises them “everlasting life” with God. If there are those who are “troubled and harassed” by “unclean spirits”, let them come to Jesus who is able to deliver them from them all.
Next time Luke shares how, “the whole multitude sought to touch him” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
