In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer is unto you, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of your mercy hear me, in the truth of your salvation”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse fourteen of Psalms David said, “deliver me out of the mire” where we read,
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:
let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
The verse begins, “Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:” David began with the words, “deliver me” or “snatch away, rescue, save and recover me, David” “out of the mire” which means “from the mud, clay and damp dirt”, “and let me not sink” or “and do not allow or permit me, David, to settle, drown and be sunk.” David appealed to Jehovah God to rescue him from the mud like situation he was in and not to allow him to drown within it.
The verse goes on to say, “let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.” David continued with the words, “let me be delivered from them” or “allow and permit me, David, to be rescued, liberated and snatched away from the people” “that hate me” which means “who are odious and as enemies to me, David”, “and out of the deep waters” or “and separated from the dangerous and violent depths of waste water”. David wanted Jehovah God to rescue Him from his hating enemies who were like the depth of dangerous and violent waste “waters” before him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David called upon Jehovah God to rescue and deliver him from places that felt like he was deep in mud. His enemies were assailing him, and he was captured by dangerous and “deep waters”. In other words, David was overwhelmed. David knew to cry out to God who would help him in his time of need. David had a personal relationship with Jehovah God, and he was able to call upon Him for rescue and deliverance regardless of who or what he was facing. God desires to have a relationship with every person, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be available to us to call upon when we are sinking in mud, confronting enemies and overwhelmed by troublesome deep waters.
Next time David says, “let not the waterflood overflow me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
