No Waterflood - Psalms 69:15

In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. O God, in the multitude of your mercy hear me, in the truth of your salvation”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse fifteen of Psalms David said, “let not the waterflood overflow me” where we read,

Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up,

and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

The verse begins, Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, ... David began with the words, “let not the waterflood” or “do not allow or permit the flowing stream or channel” “overflow me” which means “engulf, rinse, wash off and run over me, David”, “neither let the deep” or “and not in any way allow or permit the depth of water and mud” “swallow me up” which means “engulf, squander or devour me, David”. David appealed to Jehovah God not to permit the flowing stream to engulf him nor to allow the depth of the waters and mud to devour him.

The verse continues,... and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. David added the words, “and let not the pit” or “and do not allow or permit the slime-pits or well” “shut her mouth” which means “close and bind up the orifice in the face used for drinking, eating and speaking” “upon me” or “on me, David”. David beckoned Jehovah God not to allow the slime-pit or death to devour him.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David felt overwhelmed by his circumstances. Enemies were against him, and drunkards were singing mocking tunes about him. David was distraught. God understands we shall experience times of discouragement, and He makes Himself available to everyone who yields their life to His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. God sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and have the security of God's preservation when we are overwhelmed and engulfed by people and circumstances.

Next time David says, “Hear me, O LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
