In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake. Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. For they persecute him whom you have smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom you have wounded”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse twenty-seven of Psalms David said, “add iniquity unto their iniquity” where we read,
Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into your righteousness.
The verse begins, “Add iniquity unto their iniquity:” David began with the words, “add iniquity” or “grant, bestow, put and set perversity, depravity, consequence and punishment” “unto their iniquity” which means “toward their, David's hating foes and adversaries', perversity, depravity, consequence and punishment”. David appealed to Jehovah God to grant and bestow perversity and depravity to his enemies' own perversity and depravity.
The verse continues, “and let them not come into your righteousness.” David added the words, “and let them not come” or “and do not allow or permit them, David's enemies, to attain, be enumerated, bring to pass or be introduced” “into your righteousness” which means “into your, Jehovah God's, rightness, justice, justification, salvation and truthfulness”. David beckoned Jehovah God not to allow his enemies to be introduced to His salvation and truthfulness.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David left vengeance against his enemies in Jehovah God's hands. Although David had some suggestions, he knew God would contend with his hating foes. God loves people, and He gives us the opportunity to receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we realize God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, humble ourselves and believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and contend with any enemy who rises in opposition to us.
Next time David says, “let them be blotted out of the book of the living”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
