In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake. Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse twenty-six of Psalms David said, “they persecute him whom you have smitten” where we read,
For they persecute him whom you have smitten;
and they talk to the grief of those whom you have wounded.
The verse begins, “For they persecute him whom you have smitten;” David began with the words, “for they persecute him” or “because, since and on account that they, the hating foes and adversaries, follow after, harass, aim to secure, chase away and pursue the person” “whom you have smitten” which means “that you, Jehovah God, struck, scourged, smote and punished”. David said his hating foes pursued and harassed the people that Jehovah God already punished.
The verse goes on to say, “and they talk to the grief of those whom you have wounded.” David continued with the words, “and they talk to the grief” or “and they, the hating foes and adversaries, utter, declare and proclaim toward the pain, affliction and sorrow” “of those whom you have wounded” which means “belonging to the people that you, Jehovah God, defiled, profaned and slew”. David said his enemies were speaking about the pain, affliction and sorrow of the people whom Jehovah God profaned.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover another reason why David wanted Jehovah God to judge his enemies. When God judged His people, David's hating foes piled on with harassment and slander. In other words, when God's people were being judged, David's enemies saw it as an occasion to taunt and scorn them even more. God loves people, and He wants us to humble themselves, repent of our sins and receive His Son Jesus as “Savior and Lord”, however, should we oppose Him and His believers, we remain as enemies to Him. When we surrender to Jesus , He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and hear our cries when others add to the affliction and pain that we endure. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus and never be among those who “persecute” and “talk to the grief” of those He has punished.
Next time David says, “add iniquity unto their iniquity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
