Let Their Table Become a Snare - Psalms 69:22

In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse twenty-two of Psalms David said, “let their table become a snare before them” where we read,

Let their table become a snare before them:

and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

The verse begins, Let their table become a snare before them: David began with the words, “let their table” or “allow and permit their, David's hating foes and adversaries, spread out meal to” “become a snare before them” which means “come to be a trap, plot or spread net in front them, David's enemies”. David desired that Jehovah God to allow the “meal” of his hating foes to become a trap in front of them.

The verse goes on to say,and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. David continued with the words, “and that which should have been” or “and the thing that was to exist” “for their welfare” which means “for their completion, soundness, security and according to peace””, “let it become a trap” or “allow and permit that which should have been for their welfare to be bait, a lure and a snare”. David wanted Jehovah God to allow his enemies to have their wicked ways toward him become as a baited snare.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted Jehovah God to turn the tables upon His enemies. When they set a trap for David, David turned them over to Jehovah God. God loved David, and He understood that David would have to endure afflictions and difficulties from hating foes. Jesus faced them same. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Jesus identifies with us when others “set a table before us”, and He is able to turn their pernicious ways into a baited snare.

Next time David says, “let their eyes be darkened”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
