In Psalms ninety Moses said to Jehovah God, “a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up”, and in chapter ninety and verse six of Psalms Moses said, “in the morning it flourishes” where we read,
In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers.
The verse begins, “In the morning it flourishes, and grows up;” Moses began with the words, “In the morning” or “within the dawn, break of day and the coming of daylight” “it flourishes” which means “the grass blossoms, shines and sparkles”, “and grows up” or “and passes, changes and renews quickly”. Moses referred to the way “grass” blossoms and sparkles from the beginning of the day.
The verse goes on to say, “in the evening it is cut down, and withers.” Moses continued with the words, “in the evening” or “within the sunset, night time and dusk” “it is cut down” which means “the grass is curtailed, bluntly destroyed, chopped and sliced”, “and withers” or “and dries up, is without moisture and becomes failing”. Moses referred to the way hewn down “grass” becomes dried out and without moisture.
When we meditate the words in this verse, we see how Moses compared the brevity of the life of the people of Israel to “grass” which rises up in the morning and is cut down at night. In other words, life is short on earth. God made us eternal beings, and because mankind sinned against God, we shall die. (See Romans 6:23) He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on our behalf, and when we put our faith and trust in Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to understand how brief life is on earth while we secure our eternal future with Him.
Next time Moses says, “we are consumed by your anger”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
