In Psalms ninety Moses said to Jehovah God, “a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up. In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers”, and in chapter ninety and verse seven of Psalms Moses said, “we are consumed by your anger” where we read,
For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath are we troubled.
The verse begins, “For we are consumed by your anger, ...” Moses began with the words, “for we are consumed” or “because, since and on account we, Moses and the people, exist as finished, at an end, fulfilled, spent, perished and destroyed” “by your anger” which means “through the use of your, Jehovah God's, ire that causes the wrinkling of the nostrils, nose or face”. Moses said he and the people with him were spent and destroyed by Jehovah God's intense ire.
The verse continues, “... and by your wrath are we troubled.” Moses added the words, “and by your wrath” or “and through the use of your, Jehovah God's, heat, rage, hot displeasure, indignation and anger” “are we troubled” which means “are we, Moses and the people with him, disturbed, alarmed, terrified, anxious, afraid and nervous”. Moses said he and the people with him were also alarmed and afraid by Jehovah God's hot displeasure, indignation and anger.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Moses and the people with him were experiencing the “anger” and “wrath” of Jehovah God. (See Deuteronomy 2:15-16) The people of Israel were defying God and His ways even though He continually called upon them to follow Him. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from His “anger and wrath” as we follow and obey His ways.
Next time Moses says, “you have set our iniquities before you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
