The Villages and the Fields - Nehemiah 11:25

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day. And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-five of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the villages, with their fields” where we read,

And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjathearba,

and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof.

The verse reads, And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjathearba, ...”Nehemiah began with the words, “and for the villages” which means “and on behalf of the settled abode or town”, “with their fields” or “alongside and accompanying their, the people of Israel's, lands or plains”, “some of the children of Judah” which means “pertaining to the offspring and progeny belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon” “dwelt at Kirjathearba” or “lived, abode and took habitation within Kirjathearba whose name means city of Arba”. Nehemiah shared how a number of the offspring of “Judah” lived within the towns and plains which included “Kirjathearba”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and in the villages thereof” which means “and within the settled abodes or towns belonging to Judah”, “and at Dibon” or “and at the place called Dibon whose name means wasting”, “and in the villages thereof” which means “and within the settled abodes or towns within Dibon”, “and at Jekabzeel” or “and at the place called God gathers and was the most remote city of Judah which was located in southern Judah on the border of Edom”, “and in the villages thereof” which means “and within the of the settled abodes or town within Jekabzeel”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of Judah lived within “Dibon” and “Jekabzeel” and the settled abodes within those areas.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about more of the places where the offspring of “Judah” lived. They inhabited “Kirjatharba, Dibon and Jekabzeel” and the surrounding settled abodes which were in the region of “Judah”. God loves the people of Israel, and He provided for them. He loves us as well, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. God resurrected Jesus from the dead three days later so all who put their faith and trust in Him may be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Let all who read these words, wherever they live and whatever they do, yield to Jesus and allow God's Holy Spirit to lead them to their destination and purpose.

Next time Nehemiah shares about, “Jeshua, Moladah and Bethphelet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
