All the Sons of Perez - Nehemiah 11:6

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez. And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Colhozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni”, and in chapter eleven and verse six of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, the number of, “all the sons of Perez” where we read,

All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men.

The verse reads, All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “all the sons of Perez” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the male offspring and progeny belonging to Perez whose name means breach” “that dwelt at Jerusalem” or “who abode, inhabited and lived within Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and was the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Nehemiah shared how the male offspring belonging to “Perez” numbered according to the following.

The verse continues, “... were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men.” Nehemiah added the words, “were four hundred threescore” or “existed as four hundred and sixty” “and eight valiant men” which means “plus eight mighty, powerful and able male human beings”. Nehemiah shared how there were “four hundred and sixty eight” powerful males among the offspring of “Perez”.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about the number of the males who were descendants of “Perez” who lived within “Jerusalem”. “Four hundred and sixty eight” mighty and powerful men stayed within the city and became part of those who were like an army there. God chooses those who will serve Him, and everyone is invited. Those who yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was raised from the dead three days later will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and enabled to live within the “New Jerusalem” with Him one day. Let all who read these words submit to Jesus, and become part of God's mighty Kingdom that shall last forever and ever. (See Revelation 3:12, 21:2)

Next time Nehemiah says, “these are the sons of Benjamin”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
