In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day. And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people. And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjathearba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof. And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Bethphelet, ...”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-seven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Hazarshual, Beersheba and in the villages thereof” where we read,
And at Hazarshual, and at Beersheba,
and in the villages thereof.
The verse reads, “And at Hazarshual, and at Beersheba, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “and at Hazarshual”which means “and within the village known as Hazarshual whose name means jackal and was village which was located in southern Judah”, “and at Beersheba” or “and within the village known as Beersheba whose name means well of the sevenfold oath which was located at the south edge of Israel”. Nehemiah shared how the progeny belonging to Judah also resided within the towns of “Hazarshual, and at Beersheba”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and in the villages thereof.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and in the villages” which means “and within the towns and settled abodes” “thereof” or “within Hazarshual and Beersheba”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of Judah lived within the settled abodes known as “Hazarshual, and at Beersheba”.
When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover three more places where the offspring of Judah lived. God was establishing His people where He desired. Some served in Jerusalem, and others in villages and towns within Judah. God's Kingdom is broad and wide, and He invites all of us to be within it. He gave His Only Begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He raised Him from the dead three days later, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins and to have everlasting life with Him. (See John 3:16) Let all who read these words yield themselves to Jesus and receive His placement through His Holy Spirit within His Kingdom.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
