In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin”, and in chapter eleven and verse eleven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Seraiah … the ruler of the house of God” where we read,
Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth,
the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God.
The verse reads, “Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, ...” Nehemiah began with the word, “Seraiah” which means “Jehovah is ruler” “the son of Hilkiah” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Hilkiah whose name means my portion is Jehovah”, “the son of Mishullam” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Mishullam whose name means friend”, “the son of Zadok” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Zadok whose name means righteous”, “the son of Meraioth” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Meraioth whose name means rebellious”. Nehemiah said “Seraiah” existed as the following.
The verse goes on to say, “the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God.” Nehemiah continued with the words,“the son of Ahitub” which means “the offspring and progeny belonging to Ahitub whose name means my brother is good (goodness)”, “was the ruler” or “existed as the prince, captain and leader” “of the house of God” which means “pertaining to the habitation, abode and dwelling place belonging to the Supreme Deity”. Nehemiah shared how “Seraiah” existed as the leader and captain within Jehovah God's sacred sanctuary and was a descendant of “Ahitub”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “Seraiah” existed as the leader over the temple of Jehovah God. His heritage was important in determining his position, and our heritage is important to God as well. He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross fro the sins of all mankind, and He raised Him from the dead three days later so when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put us in positions according to His perfect will and purpose for our lives.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “their brethren that did the work”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
