In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin, Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God”, and in chapter eleven and verse twelve of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “their brethren that did the work” where we read,
And their brethren that did the work of the house were eight hundred twenty and two: and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah,
The verse reads, “And their brethren that did the work of the house were eight hundred twenty and two:” Nehemiah began with the words, “and their brethren” which means “and their, the priests' fellow relatives, kinship and kindred” “that did the work” or “who performed the occupation, business and labor” “of the house” which means “belonging to the habitation, abode and dwelling place” “were eight hundred twenty and two” or “numbered eight hundred and twenty two”. Nehemiah shared how there were eight hundred and twenty two fellow kinsmen who preformed the labor within the sacred dwelling place.
The verse continues, “and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah, ...” Nehemiah added the words, “and Adaiah” whose name means “Jehovah has adorned himself” “the son of Jeroham” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Jeroham whose name means showing pity”, “the son of Pelaliah” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Pelaliah whose name means Jehovah has judged”, “the son of Amzi” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Amzi whose name means my strength”, “the son of Zechariah” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Zechariah whose name means Jehovah remembers”, “the son of Pashur” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Pashur whose name means freedom”, “the son of Malchiah” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Malchiah whose name means my king is Jehovah”. Nehemiah how “Adaiah” was also involved in the labor within the dwelling place of Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about the fellow kinsman of the “priests”who performed the labor within the temple of Jehovah God. The temple of the LORD needed to be serviced, and those who were ministering to the “priests” served both them and the place of worship. God values every person, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead three days laters. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and to empower us to live according to that truth in whatever area of ministry He chooses for us.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “his brethren, chief of the fathers”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
