In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “these are the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jesaiah. and after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight. And Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer: and Judah the son of Senuah was second over the city”, and in chapter eleven and verse ten of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin” where we read,
Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin.
The verse reads, “Of the priests:” Nehemiah began with the words, “of the priests” which means “pertaining to the spiritual leaders and spokesmen” the following were enumerated. Nehemiah began to share about the spiritual leaders who were within the city of Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin.” Nehemiah added the word, “Jedaiah” which means “Jehovah has known” “the son of Joiarib” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Joiarib whose name means Jehovah contends”, “Jachin” which means “He will establish”. Nehemiah shared how “Jedaiah and Jachin” were among the “priests” who lived and remained within Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that there were spiritual leaders who lived within the city of Jerusalem. Among them was “Jedaiah and Jachin”, and these men were important enough for Jehovah God and Nehemiah to mention in His word. God loves everybody, and because He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead three days later, when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and set us in positions to serve in His Kingdom in this life and for all eternity.
