In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day. And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people. And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjathearba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof. And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Bethphelet, and at Hazarshual, and at Beersheba, and in the villages thereof”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof” where we read,
And at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof.
The verse reads, “And at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “and at Ziklag” which means “and within the village known as Ziklag whose name means winding and was a town in the south of Judah”, “and at Mekonah” or “and within the village of Mekonah whose name means foundation”. Nehemiah shared how “Ziklag and Mekonah” were among the villages where the people of Judah lived.
The verse continues, “... and in the villages thereof.” Nehemiah added the words, “and in the villages” which means “and within the places of rising and towns” “thereof” or “within Ziklag and Mekonah”. Nehemiah said “Ziklag and Mkonah” were the towns in which some of the people of Judah dwelled.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about two more of the towns or “villages”which were inhabited by the people of Israel who returned to their homeland. God was spreading the people of Judah around their land, and each of them were to rebuild their lives there. God knows where He wants us to be, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead three days later, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and guide us by His Holy Spirit into the places He wants us to live and show us how to serve in His Kingdom there.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “Enrimmon, Zareah and Jaruth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
