All Men Should Honor the Son - John 5:23

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise. For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does: and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will. For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto the Son”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-three of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “all men should honor the Son” where we read:

That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father.

He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him.

The verse reads, “That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father.”. John began with the words, “that all men” or “so each, every, the whole and everyone whether male or female” “should honor the Son” which means “ought to fix value upon, revere and venerate the Son Jesus”, “even as they honor” or “in the same way and manner that they fix the value upon, revere and venerate” “the Father” which refers to “the Heavenly Father God”. John shared how Jesus said every person ought to give Him the same “reverence and value” as they do God “the Father”.

The verse goes on to say, “He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him.John continues the words, “He that honors not” which means “the person whether male or female who does not fix value upon, revere and venerate” “the Son” or “the Son who is Jesus” “honors not the Father” which means “does not fix value upon, revere or venerate Father God” “which has sent him” or “who has dispatched and assigned Him”. John shared how Jesus said the person who does not give Him the same “reverence and value” as they do Father God does not “reverence and value” Father God Himself.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we discover a direct connection between “honoring” Jesus the Son and God the Father. A person who “honors” Jesus, “honors” “God”, and a person who does not “honor” Jesus, does not “honor” the Father God. God sent His Son Jesus into the world as the Messiah and Christ who would be the “Savior and Lord” of all who believe and trust in Him. Those who are wise will “honor” Jesus the Son, and will thereby be “honoring” Father God as well.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “he that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
