The Hour is Coming and Now Is - John 5:25

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise. For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does: and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will. For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-five of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God” where we read:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is,

when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

The verse reads, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, ...”. John began with the words, “Verily, verily” or “surely, surely or truly, truly”, “I say unto you” which means “I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to you Jewish people”, “the hour is coming” or “the certain time or season fixed by natural law will appear and come forth”, “and now is” which means “and is present at this time and immediate”. John shared how Jesus said the following time would appear and already exists.

The verse goes on to say, “... when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.John continued with the words, “when the dead” which means “at the time and moment that the deceased, departed, destitute of life and inanimate who have breathed their last” “shall hear the voice” or “will be endowed with the faculty for hearing, perceiving and understanding of the tone or sound of uttered words” “of the Son of God” which means “belonging to God the Father's Son Jesus”: “and they that hear shall live” or “and the people who endowed with the faculty for hearing, perceiving and understanding the tone or sound of uttered words of Jesus will breath, be among the living, enjoy real life, be active, blessed and endless in the Kingdom of God”. John shared how Jesus said the “hour” which is “coming and now is” will be the time the “deceased and departed from life” “perceive and understand” the “tone and sound” of His “voice”, and those who “hear” Jesus' “voice” will be “alive”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus spoke of a “time” when His “voice” would be “heard” by the “dead”, and those who “hear” Him will be raised to “life”. God's desire is to have every person live eternally with Him, and they shall inherit everlasting life with Him when they believe and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Let all who read these words know the importance of “hearing” Jesus and believing in Him so they might obtain “eternal life” with God in Heaven.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “as the Father has life … so has he given to the Son to have life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
