What Sign Do You Show? - John 6:30

The apostle John wrote when people found Jesus asked Him, “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on him whom he has sent”, and in chapter six and verse thirty of his book, John shared how the people ask Jesus, “what sign show you then, that we may see, and believe you?” where we read:

They said therefore unto him, What sign show you then, that we may see, and believe you?

what do you work?

The verse reads,They said therefore unto him, What sign show you then, that we may see, and believe you?”. John began with the words, “they said therefore unto him” or “the people who were looking for Jesus then questioned Jesus”, “what sign show you then” which means “what mark, token, miracle or wonder will you therefore make, produce, prepare or provide”, “that we may see” or “so we, the people who looked for Jesus, might perceive, know and experience”, “and believe you” which means “and trust in, rely upon and cling to you, Jesus”? John shared how the people who looked for Jesus wanted Him to perform a “miracle or wonder” so they could “know and trust in” Him.

The verse continues, what do you work?John added the words, “what do” which means “what is the miracle or wonder” “you work” or “you, Jesus, labor, exercise, perform or produce”? John shared how the people asked Jesus again what “work” He was going to perform for them.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how the people who were searching for Jesus felt they needed additional proof that He was who He was claiming to be. They desired that He do some sort of “miracle or wonder” before them even though He had already healed, made whole and fed the multitude of people. God demonstrates over and over that He sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and every person who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and receive “everlasting life” with Him. Let all who read these words perceive Jesus for who He is and not by what He “does” to prove Himself.

Next time John shares how the people tell Jesus, “our fathers did eat manna in the desert”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
