Authority to Execute Judgment - John 5:27

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-seven of his book, John shared how Jesus said the Father, “has given him authority to execute judgment also” where we read:

And has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

The verse reads, “And has given him authority to execute judgment also, ...”. John began with the words, “and has given him authority” or “and granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied to the Son Jesus with power, ability, strength, right of influence and privilege” “to execute judgment also” which means “even so and indeed to make ready, produce, bear and acquire separating, sundering, selection and sentence of condemnation or damnatory judgment”. John shared how Jesus declared that His Father God “gave” Him the “power and right” to bear “selection and sentence of condemnation” toward people for the following reason.

The verse goes on to say, “... because he is the Son of man.John continued with the words, “because he is” which means “since and on account that Jesus” “the Son of man” or “God's Son”. John shared how Jesus said the reason God the Father “gave” Him this “authority” was because He is “His Son”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus received His “authority to execute judgment” from God the Father because He is His Son. God desired to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who yield to Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life. Those who refuse and reject Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” will face Him as their “condemnatory judge”, and no one will escape or provide sufficient excuses for not accepting Him. Those who are wise will understand who Jesus is and the “power and strength of judgment” He has been given by His Father God.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “marvel not at this”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
