Be Wise and Instructed - Psalms 2:10

Psalms chapter two is a Messianic Psalm where King David wrote how God said, “I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD has said unto me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten you. Ask of me, and I shall give you the heathen for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel”, and in chapter two and verse ten of the book of Psalms David said, “be wise” and “be instructed” where we read,

Be wise now therefore, O you kings: be instructed, you judges of the earth.

The verse begins, “Be wise now therefore, O you kings:”. David began with the words, “be wise now therefore” or “exist as prudent, circumspect and having insight at this time, then, wherefore, consequently and on this account”, “O you kings” which means “O you royal rulers”. David shared how David warned the “royal rulers” to be “prudent and circumspect” according to his previous statements.

The verse goes on to say, “be instructed, you judges of the earth.” David continued with the words “be instructed” or “exist as chastened, disciplined and admonished”, “you judges” which means “you law-givers, governors and those who decide and discriminate controversies” “of the earth” or “belonging to the arable land, territory, country, district and region”. David warned the “law-givers” and “discriminating governors” concerning the words he previously wrote concerning Jehovah God's royal prince and Messiah.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how this Messianic Psalm serves as a warning and encouragement to the “ruling powers” upon the earth. God alone exalts a person to a position of power, and He can easily remove them. (See Daniel 2:21, Psalm 75:6-7 and Romans 13:1) Jesus Christ, God's Son, will rule and reign on the earth, and He will be known to everyone as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Those who are wise are “admonished and encouraged” in these things and use this opportunity to surrender to Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”. When they do, they will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and enjoy the “ruling power of the Messiah” in every day of their lives.

Next time David says, “serve the LORD with fear”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
