Serve the LORD with Fear - Psalms 2:11

Psalms chapter two is a Messianic Psalm where King David wrote, “Be wise now therefore, O you kings: be instructed, you judges of the earth”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of the book of Psalms David said, “serve the LORD with fear” where we read,

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

The verse begins, “Serve the LORD with fear, ...”. David began with the word, “Serve” or “work, labor and make oneself as a servant to” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah God who is the existing One and is the name of the One true God” “with fear” or “accompanied with awe, respect, piety and reverence”. David instructed those who were reading his words to “make themselves as servants” of Jehovah God with an “awe and reverence” of Him.

The verse continues, “... and rejoice with trembling. David added the words “and rejoice” which literally means “to spin around” and carries the idea of being “glad and joyful” “with trembling” which means “with shuddering fearfulness”. David wrote how the heathen rulers, kings and other who were listening to his words should be “joyful and glad” with “shuddering fearfulness” about “serving” the LORD.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the “heathen rulers and kings” as well as anyone else is to respond to the fact that Jehovah God's “Messiah” will rule and reign on the earth. They are to “serve” the LORD will a holy awe, and their reverence should lead them to “gladness and joy” with shuddering excitement that makes them want to “spin around”. God wants people to be in a personal relationship with Him, and anyone who yields to His Son Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Those who are wise respond to David's words in reverence for God and surrender themselves to His Son and Messiah Jesus.

Next time David says, “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish from the way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
