Who Will Show Us Any Good? - Psalms 4:6

In Psalms chapter four David declared, “the LORD has set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD”, and in chapter four and verse six of Psalms David said, There be many that say, Who will show us any good?” where we read,

There be many that say, Who will show us any good?

LORD, lift you up the light of your countenance upon us.

The verse begins, “There be many that say, Who will show us any good?” David began with the words, “There be many that say” or “there exists an abounding and numerous amount of people who utter, declare, proclaim and ask”, “who will show us” which means “what person will present, exhibit and display for us, the numerous people” “any good” or “some pleasant, agreeable, excellent and beneficial prosperity and happiness”? David shared how an abundant number of people were questioning what person would present to them some sort of beneficial prosperity or happiness.

The verse continues, “LORD, lift you up the light of your countenance upon us.” David added the word, “LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “lift you up the light” which means “Jehovah exalt and raise up the lamp, illumination and brightness” “of your countenance” or “belonging to your, Jehovah's, face and presence” “upon us” which means “on those with whom David associated”. David prayed for Jehovah God to raise His face or presence on himself and his companions.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover people who wonder what person will present them with true happiness and prosperity compared to people who pray with David for the LORD God to shine His face upon them. The idea is “favor”, and when God Almighty sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, He demonstrated His willingness to forgive sins and provide everlasting life to all who believe in Him. God inspired these words through David, and we have an opportunity to employ them in our lives. Let us call upon the LORD to “lift up the light of His countenance upon us” and savor the prosperity and joy that only He can provide.

Next time David says, “you have put gladness in my heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
