Staying with Brethren Seven Days - Acts 28:14

Luke the beloved physician wrote how he, Paul, and others with him were shipwrecked and swam to “the island” that “was called Melita”, “and after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. And from there we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse fourteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days” where we read:

Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days:

and so we went toward Rome.

The verse begins, “Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: Luke began with the words, “where we found brethren” which means “in that place and location we, Luke, Paul and the others sailing with them discovered, met with and came to know fellow believers who were united to each other by the bond of affection”, “and were desired to tarry with them” or “and were called to one side, summoned and entreated to stay, continue and remain with the fellow believers”, “seven days” which means “for seven sunrises and sunsets”. Luke shared how he, Paul and the others sailing with them found fellow believers, and those fellow believers wanted them to remain in their company for “seven days”.

The verse continues, “and so we went toward Rome.” Luke added the words, “and so we went” which means “and thereafter, then and following the seven days we, Luke, Paul and the others sailing with them departed and left” “toward Rome” or “to the city of Rome whose name means strength and was the famous capital of the ancient world”. Luke shared how he, Paul and the others departed from the believers in “Puteoli” after staying with them for “seven days” and sailed to “Rome”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how he, Paul and the other men sailing with them discovered some “fellow believers” in the city of “Puteoli”, and those believers wanted “Paul” and the other to stay with them for “seven days”. After doing so, they left for the city of “Rome” which was the predetermined destination by God so “Paul” could share the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people there. God loves everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Let all who consider these travels of “Paul” understand God's purpose and resolve for His good news of salvation to be offered to every person.

Next time Luke shares how brethren, “came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
