Breaking Bands and Casting Cords - Psalms 2:3

Last time in this Messianic Psalm King David asked, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ...”, and in chapter two and verse two of the book of Psalms David shared how the rulers and kings say,Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from uswhere we read,

Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

The verse begins, “Let us break their bands asunder, ...”. David began with the words, “let us break” or “allow and permit us kings and rulers to pull or tear away and apart from” “their bands asunder” which means “the bonds, restraints, halters and chastisements of the Lord and His anointed One”. David shared how the “heathen” kings and rulers purposed to throw off the restrains and bonds of “the LORD and his anointed”.

The verse continues, “... and cast away their cords from us.” David added the words, “and cast away” or “and throw off, hurl, fling and shed” “their cords” which means “the ropes, chains and interwoven foliage” “from us” or “apart and separate from us, heathen kings and rulers”. David wrote how the “kings and rulers” decided to throw off the “ropes and chains” of “the LORD and His anointed One”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the “ruling authorities” desired to be without restrictions and restraints from God. They did not want the LORD or His anointed Messiah to tell them how to live or what to do. In other words, they resisted them. God knows people with “power” may choose to receive Him and His Son Jesus or reject Him, and because their tendency is to want to be without any authority in their lives, they want to “break their bands” and “cast away their cords”. God loves people, and there will be a time in the future when nations and rulers decide to “do away with God”, however, their efforts will be in vain. Jesus Christ came into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and when a person believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Those who are wise will never be like these “heathen kings and rulers”, and they surrender themselves to the rule and reign of God the Father and His Son Jesus.

Next time David says, “He that sits in the heavens shall laugh”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
