No Pleasure in Wickedness - Psalms 5:4

In Psalms chapter five David wrote, “Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto you will I pray. My voice shall you hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto you, and will look up”, and in chapter five and verse four of Psalms David wrote, “you are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness” where we read,

For you are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with you.

The verse begins, “For you are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness:” David began with the words, “For you are not a God” which means “because, since and on account that you, David's King and God, does not exist as a true, mighty and powerful Deity” “that has pleasure” or “who delights, favors or is pleased” “in wickedness” which means “within moral wrong and iniquity”. David declared that his holy God has no delight in moral wrongs and iniquities.

The verse continues, “neither shall evil dwell with you.” David added the words, “neither shall evil” or “no and not in any way will bad, misery, malignancy and unkind deeds and actions” “dwell with you” which means “abide, remain, inhabit and continue with you, God”. David stated that “bad, misery and unkind deeds and actions” would in no way abide in God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn about David's assessment of the character of God. God has no delight in “iniquity”, and He does not abide where there is “unkind deeds and actions”. God is a God of love, and He is Holy, without wickedness, evil and wrong, and everyone who is not holy like Him exists as sinners. Peter the apostle said, “But as he which has called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conversation;” (See 1 Peter 1:15), and without a personal relationship with God's Son Jesus, a person remains in their sins. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life. Those who choose to be like God will have no “pleasure in wickedness” and “neither shall evil dwell with” them. Let us praise the Lord for His nature, character and ways, and allow Him to put His holy ways within us.

Next time David says, “The foolish shall not stand in your sight”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
