Rulers and Kings Take Counsel - Psalms 2:2

Last time in this Messianic Psalm we saw where King David asked, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”, and in chapter two and verse two of the book of Psalms David shared how, rulers” and “kings of the earth take counsel together against the LORD” where we read,

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together,

against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

The verse begins, “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, ...”. David began with the words, “the kings” or “the royal ones” “of the earth set themselves” which means “belonging to the land, country, territory and ground station, place and present their own selves”, “and the rulers” or “and the leaders and honorable princes” “take counsel together” which means “establish, seat themselves, instruct, ordain, consult and sit in conclave and united”. David shared how the “kings and rulers” of the “world” unite and confer with one another according to the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, ...” David continued with the words, “against the LORD” or “in opposition to Jehovah God who is the existing One and the One true God”, “and against his anointed” which means “and in opposition to Jehovah's Messiah or Messianic prince”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the words in our next verse. David wrote how the “kings and rulers” of the earth assemble to take a position against Jehovah God's anointed One and Messiah who is Jesus Christ His Son.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David shared that “kings and rulers” who have “power” on the “earth” will assemble to consult and decide with one another to be in opposition to God Himself and His Messiah and Son Jesus. We will see how this works out for them in our next verses, but for now let us consider the idea of mankind, regardless of their positions of “power”, attempting to come against Almighty God. Jesus Christ, God's Son, was sent into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and because people needed forgiveness of their sins to be in a personal relationship with Him, God provided this means to “save” them from eternal separation from Him. God loves people, and those who believe, consult or otherwise, regardless of who they may be, in opposition to Him, will thwart their own salvation and live throughout eternity in regret for refusing to receive God's “anointed”, Jesus, for all eternity.

Next time David shares how the rulers and kings say, “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
