Take Heed to the Light in You - Luke 11:35

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “The light of the body is the eye: therefore when your eye is single, your whole body also is full of light; but when your eye is evil, your body also is full of darkness”, and in chapter eleven and verse thirty-five of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “take heed therefore that the light which is in you be not darkness” where we read:

Take heed therefore that the light which is in you be not darkness.

The verse reads, “Take heed therefore that the light ...” Luke began with the words, “take heed therefore” or “observe, contemplate, mark, and fix your attention then, wherefore, consequently and accordingly” “that the light” which means “that the sight, vision and faculty for knowing”. Luke shared how Jesus told the people listening to Him to “pay particular attention to” the “illumination, vision and faculty for knowing” with which they surrounded themselves.

The verse continues, “... which is in you be not darkness.” Luke added the words, “which is in you” or “that exists inside of the people” “be not darkness” which means “exist not as blindness, shadiness and obscurity”. Luke shared how Jesus said when a person “contemplates and fixes their attention” upon the “light”, the “obscurity and blindness” within them will not exist.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see the importance of having “light” within our lives. Jesus is the “light of the world”, and those who receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” see the world differently than those who are “blinded” with “darkness”. God wants everyone to relate to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him, He opens their “eyes” to view the world in a way that “lightens” everything they see.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “if your whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
