As Jesus Spoke Many Believed - John 8:30

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees,When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him, and in chapter eight and verse thirty of his book John wrote concerning Jesus, “as he spoke these words, many believed on him” where we read:

As he spoke these words, many believed on him.

The verse reads,As he spoke these words, ...” John began with the words, “and he spoke” which means “while and during the time Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “these words” or “the words Jesus declared about Himself being the Christ” the following occurred. John shared during the time Jesus spoke His words concerning being from above and existing as the Christ of God the following happened.

The verse goes on to say, “... many believed on him.” John continued with the words, “many believed” which means “a large number of people trusted in, relied upon, clung to and had confidence” “on him” or “in Jesus”. John shared how people “heard” Jesus' words and “trusted in and began to rely upon” Him.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how “a large group of people” “trusted in” Jesus because of what He said. Even as there are “believers and unbelievers” today, there were people who trusted Jesus and people who did not. Jesus promised to forgive the sins and grant eternal life to every person who submits their life to Him. Those who are wise will believe and trust in Jesus even as these “many” Jewish people did when He was on earth.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells the Jews who believed on him, “if you continue in my world, then are you my disciples indeed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
