You Shall Know the Truth and Be Free - John 8:32

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told the people who believed on Him,If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed;, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-two of his book John shared how Jesus told the Jews who believed on him, “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” where we read:

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The verse reads,And you shall know the truth, ...” John began with the words, “and you shall know” which means “and you, believers in Jesus, will understand, perceive, notice, discern and discover” “the truth” or “what is reality, fact, certainty and what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man according to moral and religious truth”. John shared how Jesus told His “Jewish believers” when they “continue” in His word, they would know “what is true in things appertaining to God”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and the truth shall make you free.” John continued with the words, “and the truth” which means “and what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man according to moral and religious truth” “shall make you free” or “will deliver, set at liberty and liberate the Jewish believers in Jesus from moral, ceremonial or mortal liability”. John shared how Jesus told the “Jewish people who believed in Him” when they knew “what is true in things pertaining to God”, that “truth” would “liberate” them from “moral, ceremonial and mortal liability”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how to be “free” in Jesus. By “continuing” in God's word, a person begins to “know” what is “true pertaining to God”, and that knowledge “liberates” them from the “moral, ceremonial and mortal liability” which is put upon man. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and when a person “receives” Jesus into their life and “remains” in His word, they become more and more familiar with God the Father, Christ Jesus His Son and His ways to be in this world. Knowing these will set a person “free”, and those who are wise will yield to everything God the Father and Christ the Son have for them.

Next time John shares how the Jews tell Jesus, “we are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
