Jesus' Hour Was Not Yet Come - John 8:20

John the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bears witness of me. Then said they unto him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You neither know me, nor my Father: if you had known me, you should have known my Father also, and in chapter eight and verse twenty of his book John shared how,no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come where we read:

These words spoke Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple:

and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

The verse reads,These words spoke Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple:” John began with the words, “these words spoke Jesus” which means “the words concerning His testimony and His Father's agreement with it uttered, declared and proclaimed the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “in the treasury” or “within the repository or public treasure”, “as he taught” which means “while and during the time Jesus delivered didactic discourses in order to instruct the people, imparted instruction and instilled doctrine” “in the temple” or “within the sacred worship place in Jerusalem”. John shared how location of Jesus while He “taught” was in the “repository” portion of the “sacred worship” place in Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.” John continued with the words, “and no man” which means “and not one person whether male or female” “laid hands on him” or “captured, apprehended or arrested Jesus”: “for his hour” which means “because, since and on account that Jesus' definite time and season” “was not yet come” or “had not arisen and appeared”. John shared how nobody “captured or arrested” Jesus because it was not the right “time” for these things to occur.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn not only where Jesus “taught”, but also that no one attempted to “seize” Him while He was there. The “repository” was the place people brought their “offerings and gifts” to God, and Jesus was in this location as He spoke of His and His Father's “testimony”. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they yield their life to His Son Jesus, He will save them from their sins and grant them everlasting life. Jesus did everything according to God's purpose, plan and timing, and those who study His life will discover He is more than willing to receive everyone who comes to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, I go my way, and you shall seek me, and shall die in your sins, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
