Will Jesus Kill Himself? - John 8:22

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees,I go my way, and you shall seek me, and shall die in your sins, and in chapter eight and verse twenty two the scribes and Pharisees wonder if Jesus “will kill himself?” where we read:

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he said, Where I go, you cannot come.

The verse reads,Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself?” John began with the words, “then said the Jews” which means “at that time uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked the people in the Jewish nation”, “Will he kill himself” or “whether, at all and perchance will Jesus extinguish and inflict mortal death upon His own self”? John shared how the “Jewish people” wondered if Jesus was going to “inflict mortal death” upon Himself.

The verse goes on to say, because he said, Where I go, you cannot come.” John continued with the words, “because he said” which means “since and on account that Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “where I go” or “the place and location I, Jesus, depart and go forth to”, “you cannot come” which means “you, Pharisees and Jewish people, are unable to arise and appear”. John shared how the “Jewish people” wondered if Jesus would “kill Himself” because He told them He was going to a place they were unable to “arise and appear”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how the “Jewish people” reacted to Jesus telling them they could not go where He was going. It is interesting that they decided He must be going to “kill Himself”, but because they were so far from a relationship with Him, they could not imagine where He was going and they be unable to find Him. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and be allowed to go to Heaven where He and God the Father are. Let all who read these words carefully consider what Jesus said and yield their lives to Him rather than wonder where He is and what He will do.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells the scribes and Pharisees, you are from beneath; I am from above, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
