Jesus Not Seeking His Own Glory - John 8:50

The apostle John wrote how Jesus asked the people who were questioning Him,Which of you convinces me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not believe me? He that is of God hears God's words: you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God. Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that you are a Samaritan, and have a devil? Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honor my Father, and you do dishonor me, and in chapter eight and verse fifty of his book John shared how Jesus tells the religious leaders, “I seek not my own glory” where we read:

And I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeks and judges.

The verse reads, “And I seek not my own glory: John began with Jesus' words, “and I seek not” which means “and I, Jesus, do not look for, require, demand or crave” “my own glory” or “my, Jesus', own personal praise, honor, splendor and brightness”. John shared how Jesus declared that He did not pursue His own “praise, honor and splendor”.

The verse continues, “there is one that seeks and judges. John added Jesus' words, “there is one” which means “there exists a certain and particular one” “that seeks” or “who looks for, requires, demands and craves” “and judges” which means “and separates, puts asunder, selects, chooses, approves, esteems, resolves and decrees”. John shared how Jesus spoke of “one” particular person who “requires and demands” as well as “puts asunder, decrees and approves”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus did not look for His “own praise and honor”, but deferred that honor to a certain “one” who was God the Father. God the Father desires to “honor and praise” people who have put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and when a person “believes and trusts” in Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. Those who are wise will obey what God desires and submit themselves to His Son Jesus, and when they do, He will “honor, respect and praise” them for their faith and trust in Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells the religious leaders, “If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
