Jesus Existed Before Abraham - John 8:58

The apostle John wrote how Jesus told the people who were questioning Him, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”, and in chapter eight and verse fifty-eight of his book John shared how Jesus answered the religious leaders, “before Abraham was, I am” where we read:

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

The verse reads, “Jesus said unto them, ...” John began with the words, “Jesus said” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared, proclaimed and responded” “unto them” or “to the Jewish people who were questioning Him” the following words. John shared how Jesus responded with the following words to the Jewish people's question about “seeing” “Father Abraham”.

The verse continues, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John added the words, “Verily, verily” which means “truly, truly or surely, surely”, “I say unto you” or “I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to you Jewish people”, “before Abraham was” which means “in advance and prior to Abraham whose name means father of a multitude and was the founder of the Jewish nation existed and came into being”, “I am” or “I, Jesus, exist and happen as present”. John shared how Jesus certifiably told the Jewish people questioning Him that He “existed” and was “present” in advance and prior to “Abraham”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus once again referred to the “spiritual” world rather than the “physical” one. Prior to “Abraham” being born, Jesus existed as God from time without beginning and end. God has always been and will always be, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. When they yield their life to Him, God will forgive their sins and give them everlasting life in the “spiritual” world. Those who are wise will realize Jesus existed not only prior to “Abraham”, but also before them as well and submit themselves to the One who is able to provide life for all eternity.
