The Healed Blind Man Brought to the Pharisees - John 9:13

The apostle John wrote how Jesus saw a man who was born blind and healed him by making clay, anointing his eyes, and having him wash in the pool of Siloam. When the “formally blind man's” neighbors asked him “how were your eyes opened?”, the man said, “a man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash”. The neighbors then asked, Where is he? He said, I know not, and in chapter nine and verse thirteen of his book John shared how the neighbors, “brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind” where we read:

They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

The verse reads, “They brought to the Pharisees ... John began with the words, “They brought” which means “the neighbors and friends of the blind man lead him” “to the Pharisees” or “to the men who belonged to the sect that seems to have started after the Jewish exile. In addition to Old Testament books the Pharisees recognized in oral tradition a standard of belief and life”. John shared how the “people who knew the blind man” took him to the “religious leaders” known as the “Pharisees”.

The verse continues, “... him that aforetime was blind. John added the words, “him that aforetime” which means “the man who formally” “was blind” or “existed without sight”. John shared how the neighbors and friends of the formally “blind man” took him to the “Pharisees”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how the people who knew the man who was “formally” blind to the religious leaders known as the “Pharisees”. We have seen this group before, and we shall discover how they respond to the “blind man” in our next few verses, but for now let us understand the mystery that was enjoined by these “neighbors and friends” of the “blind man”. They brought him to the “religious leaders” who were the authorities in that day, but those who are wise will bring their “mysteries” to Jesus who came to the earth to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world. He has the truthful answer and may be relied upon for anything that cannot be explained by natural man. Those who are wise will turn to Him.

Next time John shares how, “it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
