Go Wash - John 9:7

The apostle John wrote,as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, ..., and in chapter nine and verse seven of his book John shared how Jesus told the blind man, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” where we read:

And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.)

He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

The verse reads, “And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) John began with the words, “and said unto him” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to the blind man”, “Go” or “withdraw yourself and depart”, “wash in the pool” which means “perform ablution and cleanse your own self, blind man, within the place for diving, swimming hole or reservoir for bathing” “of Siloam” or “belonging to Siloam which means sent and was a fountain of water in Jerusalem also called Shiloah”, “(which is by interpretation, Sent)” which means “the definition or name of Siloam means sent”. John shared how Jesus instructed the man who was “blind” from birth to depart and “cleanse” Himself within the “reservoir” for bathing belonging to “Siloam” in Jerusalem.

The verse continues, “He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. John added the words, “he went his way therefore” which means “the blind man left, departed and went forth then, wherefore and these things being so”, “and washed” or “and cleansed and performed ablution”, “and came seeing” which means “and arose and appeared with sight and the power to see”. John shared how the “blind man” left as Jesus instructed, washed his eyes in the pool of Siloam and afterward was able to see.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how this man obeyed Jesus' instruction to “wash” in the “pool of Siloam” and subsequently was able to “see”. Jesus healed this “blind man” in a way not previously performed, and it was His prerogative. Jesus is God come in the flesh, and when He Created man, He used “mud” or dirt to form his body. Jesus simply created new eyes for this man, and when he cleansed them, he was able to see. God's desire is to remove the “spiritual blindness” from every person, and when they obey God's instruction to “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins, grant them spiritual vision and provide them with everlasting life. Let all who read these words obey the Lord Jesus and receive their “spiritual sight”.

Next time John shares how the neighbors ask, “Is not this he that sat and begged?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
