Blessed is the Man the LORD Chastens - Psalms 94:12

In Psalms ninety-four the Psalmist said, “The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity” and in chapter ninety-four and verse twelve of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD” where we read,

Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law;

The verse begins, Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “Blessed is the man” or “O how happy exists the person whether male or female” “whom you chasten” which means “that you, Jehovah God, discipline, instruct and admonish”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said the person whom Jehovah God disciplines and instructs exists as O how happy.

The verse goes on to say,... and teach him out of your law; The Psalmist continued with the words, “and teach him” or “and exercise, train and instruct him, the persons whom the LORD chastens” “out of your law” which means “from your, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction and codes of customs and manners such as the Deuteronomic or Mosaic Law”. The Psalmist included Jehovah God giving people instruction within His “law” to make them be “O how happy”.

When meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist emphasized the “happiness” of the person who Jehovah God disciplines and instructs in His “law”. God gave His “law” to the people of Israel for all people to obey, (See Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5) and it was designed for our provision and protection. When we follow God's law, our lives are better, and when we violate His law, we sin against Him. The law of God was designed to show us our need for Jesus whom God sent into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. (See Galatians 3:24-25). God loves us, and His law makes us aware of our sin. When we submit to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us aware of how to be “O how happy” in this world.

Next time the Psalmist says, “that you may give him rest from the days of adversity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
