Make a Joyful Noise unto the LORD - Psalms 98:4

In Psalms ninety-eight the Psalmist said Jehovah God, “has remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God”, and in chapter ninety-eight and verse four of Psalms the Psalmist said, “make a joyful noise unto the LORD” where we read,

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

The verse begins, Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: The Psalmist began with the words, “make a joyful noise” or “mar by breaking, split the ears, shout, blow an alarm and cry aloud” “unto the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “all the earth” or “each, every, the whole and everything within the land, ground, territory, district, region and world”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners throughout the entire world to shout, blow an alarm and cry aloud to Jehovah God.

The verse continues, make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. The Psalmist added the words, “make a loud noise” or “break out and forth a loud sound of dissonance”, “and rejoice” which means “and be glad, joyful and triumphant”, “and sing praise” or “and make music of adoration, thanks and worship with your voices”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners to break out a loud sound and make music of worship and adoration with their voices.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to worship Jehovah God. They were to use their voices to produce loud cries unto Him, and they were to shout aloud, be joyful and triumph as they gave Him thanksgiving and adoration. God loves it when we praise Him, and doing so benefits our lives as we express our relationship with Him in proper perspective. Joy fills our hearts and minds when we receive His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord” because He paid the price of death on the cross so that we may be forgiven of our sins and live eternally with God. God loves us and deserves our shouting cries, adoration and praise with music from our voices, and we should employ these God given tools to return thanksgiving to Him.

Next time the Psalmist says, “sing unto the LORD with the harp”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
