Give Unto the LORD the Glory - Psalms 96:8

In Psalms ninety-six the Psalmist said, “Give unto the LORD, O you kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength”, and in chapter ninety-six and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name” where we read,

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

The verse begins, Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: The Psalmist began with the words, “give unto the LORD” or “provide, ascribe, set place and grant to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “the glory due” which means “the honor, splendor, dignity, riches and abundance payable and owed” “unto his name” or “to his, Jehovah God's, fame, reputation and glory”. The Psalmist called upon his readers and listeners to grant and bestow upon Jehovah God the splendor and dignity that is owed to His fame, reputation and glory.

The verse continues, bring an offering, and come into his courts. The Psalmist added the words, “bring an offering” or “lift, bear up, carry, support and sustain tribute, gifts, presents, obligations and sacrifices”, “and come into his courts” which means “and enter his, Jehovah God', towns, enclosures, settlements, villages and abodes”. The Psalmist instructed his readers and listeners to bear up a tribute or gift and to enter in the the settlements and abode of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist wanted the people reading and listening to his words to present an offering of worship to Jehovah God. They were to enter God's settlements and villages with praise, honor and glory, and by surrendering their “gifts” unto Jehovah God, they would align themselves with His plans and purposes for their lives. God loves people, and He proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Jesus rose from the dead three days later, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and direct us to worship Him with words and gifts in this world and throughout eternity to come.

Next time the Psalmist says, “O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
