Clouds and Darkness Around God - Psalms 97:2

In Psalms ninety-seven the Psalmist said, “The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof, and in chapter ninety-seven and verse two of Psalms the Psalmist said, “Clouds and darkness are round about him” where we read,

Clouds and darkness are round about him:

righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

The verse begins, Clouds and darkness are round about him: The Psalmist began with the words, “clouds and darkness” or “cloudy masses such as the nimbus or thunder clouds and gross, thick and heavy dark clouds” “are round about him” which means “exist as circuit, from every side and compassing him, Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said the cloudy masses and dark clouds surround Jehovah God.

The verse goes on to say, righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. The Psalmist continued with the words, “righteousness and judgment” or “justice, rightness, deliverance, victory and prosperity as well as ordinance, deciding of a case, procedure, litigation and process” “are the habitation” which means “exist as the dwelling place and abode” “of his throne” or “pertaining to his, Jehovah God's, seat of honor, royal dignity, authority and power”. The Psalmist said rightness, justice, deliverance and victory exist as the dwelling place of Jehovah God's seat of royal dignity, authority and power.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist continued to use elements in the universe to describe the clandestine ability of Jehovah God. He said Jehovah God's rightness, justice and procedure existed as His abode. In other words, Jehovah God exists in the center of justice, deliverance, litigation and procedure. God is holy, and anyone who comes to Him must be holy and just as well. This disqualifies every person who has ever lived because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and for this reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. When we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow His righteousness to be ours. This will gain us entry in to Heaven and in the presence of Almighty Holy God where we will give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “a fire goes before him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
