The Gods of the Nations are Idols - Psalms 96:5

In Psalms ninety-six the Psalmist said, “the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods”, and in chapter ninety-six and verse five of Psalms the Psalmist said, “all the gods of the nations are idols” where we read,

For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

The verse begins, For all the gods of the nations are idols: The Psalmist began with the words, “for all the gods” or “because, since and on account that each, every, the whole and everyone of the judges, rulers and magistrates” “of the nations” which means “belonging to the persons, members, compatriots, countrymen, kinsmen and kindred of one's people” “are idols” or “exist as good for nothing, worthless, and false divinations”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God is to be “feared above all gods” because every one of the other judges, rulers and magistrates which belong to the countrymen and kindred of one's people exist as worthless and false.

The verse goes on to say,but the LORD made the heavens. The Psalmist continued with the words, “but the LORD” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “made the heavens” which means “formed, fashioned and created the visible sky, abode of the stars, the atmosphere and the dwelling of God”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God created the sky, atmosphere, abode of the stars and the dwelling place of God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist declared everyone of the judges and rulers of the compatriots and countrymen belonging the one's people to be false, worthless and as nothing. God rules the world, and He knows everything and everyone that people worship and hold up as their “gods”. These “gods” are false and empty, and their promises are vain. When people forsake Jehovah God and His Son Jesus, they abandon His ways and follow their own “gods”. God loves everyone, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and supply whatever we need in this life and the next. Those who are wise follow Him because every other “god” leads to emptiness and vanity for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “honor and majesty are before him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
