God's Great and Awesome Name - Psalms 99:3

In Psalms ninety-nine the Psalmist said, “The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people”, and in chapter ninety-nine and verse three of Psalms the Psalmist said, “let them praise your great and terrible name” where we read,

Let them praise your great and terrible name; for it is holy.

The verse begins, Let them praise your great and terrible name; The Psalmist began with the words, “let them” or “allow and permit them, the people to” “praise your great” which means “shoot forth, give and confess laud, worship and thanks to your, Jehovah God's, important, distinguished and noble” “and terrible name” or “and fearful, revered, honored and respected fame, reputation and glory”. The Psalmist called upon the people to give honor, worship, awe and laud to the important, distinguished and revered fame, reputation and glory of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, for it is holy. The Psalmist added the words, “for it” or “because, since and on account that it, the great and terrible name of Jehovah God” “is holy” which means “exists as set apart, separate and ceremonially and morally sacred”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God's “name” exists as morally and ceremonially sacred.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist called upon the people to give praise and honor to Jehovah God's sacred “name”. God is higher and greater than anyone, and He chose to send His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Hm as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to give Him laud, honor and thanks for all eternity.

Next time the Psalmist says, “the king's strength also loves judgment;”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
