The Righteous Shall Flourish - Psalms 92:12

In Psalms ninety-two the Psalmist said, “My eye also shall see my desire on my enemies, and my ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me”, and in chapter ninety-two and verse twelve the Psalmist says, “the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree” where we read,

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

The verse begins, The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: The Psalmist began with the words, “the righteous” or “the people who are just, lawful and correct” “shall flourish” which means “will bud, blossom, break forth and spring up” “like the palm tree” or “similar and in likeness to the date palm tree”. The Psalmist said people who are just and lawful will bud and blossom similar to the date palm tree.

The verse continues,he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. The Psalmist added the words, “he shall grow” or “he, the righteous person, will increase and enlarge upwardly and figuratively” “like a cedar” which means “similar to a cedar tree” “in Lebanon” or “within Lebanon whose name means whiteness and was a wooded mountain range on the northern border of Israel”. The Psalmist said the person who is just and lawful would increase similar to the cedar tree located in the mountainous range in “Lebanon”.

When meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist referred to the prosperity of people who are lawful and just. They would break forth like a date palm, and increase similar to the mighty cedar trees located in the mountain range of “Lebanon”. God loves people to be “righteous” because they are following Him and His ways. He knew people have sin in their lives which violate His laws, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He made a way to relate to Him because He forgives our sins, grant us everlasting life and makes us flourish like the fruitful and beneficial “trees” throughout the world.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “those that be planted in the house of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
