A Controversy with Judah - Hosea 12:2

In the book of Hosea, Hosea said, “Ephraim feeds on wind, and follows after the east wind: he daily increases lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt”, and in chapter twelve and verse two of Hosea, Hosea said“the LORD has also a controversy with Judah where we read,

The LORD has also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways;

according to his doings will he recompense him.

The verse begins, The LORD has also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways;” Hosea began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “has also a controversy” which means “has even so and indeed a strife, dispute, quarrel and case at law” “with Judah” or “in the company of Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan after the nation split upon the death of Solomon”, “and will punish Jacob”which means “and shall attend to, look after, pay attention to and charge Jacob, whose name means heel holder or supplanter, will attend to and charge Jacob” “according to his ways” or “in keeping with his, Jacob's, paths, journeys, travels, manners, direction, habits and course of life”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God indeed had a dispute and quarrel with “Judah”, and He would attend to, look after, pay attention to and charge “Jacob” in keeping with their habits and course of life.

The verse continues, “according to his doings will he recompense him. Hosea added the words, “according to his doings” or “in keeping with his, Jacob's, practices, acts and deeds” “will he recompense him” which means “shall he, Jehovah God, repay him, Jacob”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God would repay “Jacob” for their works, acts and deeds.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how Jehovah God had a quarrel and case with the people of “Judah”, and He was to charge “Jacob” in keeping with their habits, course of life, acts and deeds. God knows the ways, acts and deeds of everyone, and He understands that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23). The “wages of sin is death” (See Romans 6:23a), “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23b) “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was raise from the dead three days later so we could be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and spend all eternity with Him. Those who are wise will carefully consider these words and receive God's plan of salvation rather than having a“controversy” with Him, being “punished” for our sins and “recompensed” for our acts and deeds.

Next time Hosea says about Jacob, he took his brother by the heel in the womb, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
