In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God asked, “How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you as Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? my heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together”, and in chapter eleven and verse nine of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “I will not execute the fierceness of my anger” where we read,
I will not execute the fierceness of my anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim:
for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you: and I will not enter into the city.
The verse begins, “I will not execute the fierceness of my anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim:” Hosea began with the words, “I will not execute the fierceness” or “I, Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner fashion, accomplish, make or produce the burning anger, heat and displeasure” “of my anger” which means “pertaining to my, Jehovah God's, wrath and rage that wrinkles the nostrils and nose”, “I will not return” or “I, Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner turn or come back” “to destroy Ephraim” which means “to ruin, corrupt, mar, spoil or injure Ephraim whose name means double ash-heap or I shall be doubly fruitful and is the name sometimes used for the northern kingdom”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He would in no way or manner fashion or carry out the burning heat of His wrath, and He would not come back to bring “Ephraim” to ruin and spoil.
The verse goes on to say, “for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you: and I will not enter into the city.”Hosea continued with the words, “for I am God” or “because, since and on account that I, Jehovah God, exist as the Supreme Deity and One True God”, “and not man” which means “and in no way or manner a human being whether male or female”; “the Holy One” or “the sacred, set apart and morally separate One” “in the midst of you” which means “within the middle of you, Ephraim”: “and I will not enter” or “and I, Jehovah God, will in no way or manner, go in, fall upon or make an attack” “into the city” which means “in the town, encampment, place or post”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God declared Himself to be the Supreme God and in no way a human being. He is the Most Sacred On who dwelt within the middle of them, and He determined not to come into their town or location.
When we meditate upon Hosea's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God made a decision not to fashion the fullness of His wrath upon the people of “Ephraim”. He promised not to bring them to ruin based upon Him being the Supreme Holy God who was merciful and forgiving. God could judge every one of us for our sins, and yet, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and preserve us from His judgment that is certain to come upon all who refuse and reject His offer of salvation.
Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “they shall walk after the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
