In the book of Hosea, Hosea said of Israel, “Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images”, and in chapter ten and verse three of Hosea, Hosea said, “they shall say, We have no king” where we read,
For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD;
what then should a king do to us?
The verse begins, “For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD;” Hosea began with the words, “for now they shall say” or “because, since and on account that at this time they, the people of Israel, will utter, declare and proclaim”, “we have no king” which means “we, the people of Israel, do not have a royal ruler or leader”,“because we feared not” or “since and on account that we, the people of Israel, were not afraid of, in awe of, in reverence and honor to” “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Hosea shared how the people of “Israel” would declare that they were without a royal ruler since they in no way or manner revered Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “what then should a king do to us?” Hosea continued with the words, “what then” or “wherein and wherewith” “should a king” which means “could a royal ruler and leader” “do to us” or “fashion, accomplish and make for us, the people of Israel”? Hosea shared how the people of Israel questioned what benefit there would be to having a royal ruler over them.
When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Hosea said the people of Israel considered themselves without a ruling authority because they lacked in their reverence and awe of Jehovah God, and when they considered the idea of having a ruling leader, they wondered what he could do for them. These people were not only rebellious against God, but they were also rebellious against authorities and rulers. God wants us to come under His authority through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be our authority and teach us to give Him and His leaders honor and awe when our leaders follow Him.
Next time Hosea shares how, “they have spoken words, swearing falsely”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
