Great Things of God's Law - Hosea 8:12

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “because Ephraim has made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin”, and in chapter eight and verse twelve of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said of Ephraim, “I have written to him the great things of my law” where we read,

I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing. 

The verse begins, “I have written to him the great things of my law, ...” Hosea began with the words, “I have written to him”  or “I, Jehovah God, have recorded, enrolled, inscribed and registered to him, Ephraim” “the great things” which means “the multitude, abundance and numerous excellence” “of my law” or “belonging to my, Jehovah God's, direction, instruction and body of prophetic teaching”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He wrote to “Ephraim” the abundance and excellence of His direction and prophetic teaching. 

The verse goes on to say, “... but they were counted as a strange thing.” Hosea continued with the words, “but they were counted” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, Jehovah God's directions and instructions, were accounted, esteemed, calculated, devised and reckoned” “as a strange thing” which means “similar and in likeness to an estranged, loathsome and alienated object or article”. Hosea shared how the people of “Ephraim” accounted Jehovah God's “direction and prophetic teaching” as alien and loathsome. 

When we consider Hosea's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God shared how He “wrote” the numerous excellent directions and instructions to the people of “Ephraim”, however, they did not esteem or value them. God wants us to know and obey His commands, and because He knows what is best for our lives. He loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we can be forgiven and live with Him forever. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will give us His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to His purpose and plan for our lives. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8)
