As the Morning Cloud - Hosea 13:3

In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “When Ephraim spoke trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died. And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves”, and in chapter thirteen and verse three of Hosea, Hosea said, “they shall be as the morning cloud” where we read,

Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away,

as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

The verse begins, Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, ...” Hosea began with the words, “therefore they shall be” or “wherefore, then and on this account they, the people of Ephraim, will exist” “as the morning cloud” which means “similar and in likeness to the break of day, coming sunrise and dawn nimbus or thunder-cloud”, “and as the early dew” or “and similar and in likeness to the night mist which appears at dawn” “that passes away” which means “which departs, proceeds and goes away”. Hosea shared how the people of “Ephraim” were destined to exist similar to the clouds or fog that appears in the morning and the night mist which falls and disappears at dawn.

The verse goes on to say, “... as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. Hosea continued with the words, “as the chaff” or “similar and in likeness to the winnowed husk or stubble”“that is driven” which means “which is goaded and impelled” “with the whirlwind” or “by the enraged, troubled and scattered storm” “out of the floor” which means “separate and apart from the barn, void place or threshing floor”, “and as the smoke” or “and similar and in likeness to the smoking vapor or dust” “out of the chimney” which means “separate and apart from the apertures or window for smoke”. Hosea shared how the people of “Ephraim” were also similar to husks blown away from a threshing floor by a storm and vaporous smoke that escapes from an aperture or flue.

When we consider Hosea's words in this verse, we learn how the people of “Ephraim” would disappear similar to morning fog, dew, chaff and smoke. In other words, they would be in their places, and then would vanish. God knows the fate of every person, and there is no one who is hidden for His all-observing eye. He knows we all have sinned and come short of His glory (See Romans 3:23), and when we receive His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a lasting and enduring state that keeps us in alignment with Him.

Next time Hosea shares how Jehovah God says, “I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
