The LORD God of Host Spoke - Hosea 12:5

In the book of Hosea, Hosea said concerning Jacob, “He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God. Yes, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us”, and in chapter twelve and verse five of Hosea, Hosea shared who spoke to them, “even the LORD God of hosts” where we read,

Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

The verse begins, “Even the LORD God of hosts;” Hosea began with the words, “even the LORD God” or “it was Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True Supreme Deity” “of hosts” which means “of the organized army, creation and angels”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God who is over all the organized army of angels spoke to “Jacob” in Bethel. 

The verse goes on to say, “the LORD is his memorial.” Hosea continued with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “is his memorial” which means “exists as his, Jehovah God's, name”. Hosea said Jehovah existed as the name of remembrance of the “LORD God of hosts”. 

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Hosea how it was indeed Jehovah God who spoke to “Jacob” and thereby “Israel” in Bethel. God's name or fame, reputation and glory is to be exalted and remembered, and because He rules and reigns over a multitude of angelic messengers, He is to be regarded as the Supreme God over all creation. This same God loves us and sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a “memorial” of His “name” and the importance of remembering Him in everything we do.
